Symphony
A personal experiment.
In-browser piano with a built-in synthesizer, played with the keyboard or mouse.
Symphony is a piano you play in the browser, with your computer keyboard or the mouse. It has several instruments, a volume control and a reverb switch, and it starts instantly with nothing to install.
The sound is not a recording: every note is built from scratch by the browser as you press the key.
- 01
Notes are generated live
Each key starts a few oscillators at the right pitch, using the Web Audio API.
- 02
An envelope shapes the sound
An attack-decay-sustain-release envelope and a low-pass filter give each note the way a real piano sound rises and fades.
- 03
Different instruments, different recipes
Each instrument is a different combination of waveforms, detuning and envelope settings.
- 04
Optional reverb
A generated room impulse response adds a sense of space when you switch reverb on.
The first keypress or click starts the audio, because browsers do not allow sound before you interact with the page.
